Dental Fear/Anxiety- Study with Paxil, Effexor,Zoloft,Celexa,Prozac

I am doing a study here at Tufts dental School in Boston. We are looking to see if patients who are taking any of the above drugs either for anxiety, panic disorder, agoraphobia, depression or compulsive behavior have in addition to reduction in the symptoms of any of these disorders, have also noticed a secondary benefit in the reduction of any previous fear, anxiety or phobias to dental care and treatment. Sometimes prtactitioners see patients taking these agents and assume that they may represent difficult behavior or non compliance with treatment. We are trying to demonstrate that there is a secondary benfit to these grugs, that is the reduction or amelioration of dental anxiety. these patient are a concern to the vast majority of dentist and not a burden
Hope some of you out there will respond. All I need to know is the drug name, length of use ,age and gender. Confidentiality is guaranteed. How about some help out there. It is for a good cause.

 Dental Concerns about Cosmetic Dentistry

Hi Thanks to those who have respoded to my first ever blog on Dental Fear and Anxiety. I am also wondering what fears, anxieties anc concerns individual might have when contemplating cosmetic dentistry. Crowns, Bonding, Bridges . I am looking for those concerfns other than cost. Also Implants included. I have been teaching, lecturing and writing for over 27 years on the subject of dental fear and phobia and I am still surprise by the fact that many patients do not sit and talk with their practitioner. I fear that sometimes frightened patients are looked upon as a burnden rather than a concern. Hear at Tufts and at many other leading dental schools, todays students are being taught patient management, behavior management and the psychology that goes with it. I am tickled pink to see this happening. but sometimes it gets lost in the busy day to day practice. Sit dowwn with your practitioner, explain to him/her your concerns and if they do not have time to listen find another who will.
I will respond to as many as I can on this blog, as long as they are serious questions. What I learn from you I will pass on to other practitioners when I am invited to speak at dental gatherings and certainly will be passed on to my students. I do lecture around..
So keep smiling and remember "Sunshine is good for your teeth"

 Fear/Anxiety of the Dentist- Why??

I am a Fullprofessor of General and Behavioral Dentistry at Tufts In Boston. I do a large amount of research into the attitudes, factors behaviors of both the dentist and patient. We do this on people coming into the general dental clinic and all we ask is age and gender. What I hope to get from some bloggers are some legitamte questions that mighty bother people we do not hear in the clinic . I do not want any personality complaints fee complaints etc. This is genuine research and I am looking to help people with som real answers . I will not respond to nonsense.
What are your fears on a scale of 1 to 5 one being treated none 5 being severe?
What are the concerns when you think about having cosmetic dentistry done?
What do you think are the root causes of your fear
What behaviors on the part of the practitioner/staff increase fear and anxiety?
When having caps(crowns) dentures of veneers facings ,what are your greatest concerns, worries desires etc.
Remember this is a serious blog wishing to perhaps help a few people and gain some info for which I can publish and hopefully help other practitioners to better serve their patients
